In the story “Flowers For Algernon”, a disabled person called Charlie Gordon has received an incredible operation that can make people become three times smarter than before. Later, there has been an argument of whether the scientists should try to create an intelligence increasing operation. My opinion is that if I am a doctor, I would create a new (or continues the operation).
This is my opinion because when people get smarter, they can help us to solve many questions and make our life better. I found an example from the story “Flowers For Algernon” that Charlie finished his research in one week which others even have to use their whole life.
You should agree with me because I always thought it’s not fair for some dumb person like Charlie ? they tried so hard but still can’t get it. They just want to be a normal person like us; they’ll feel like they’re inferior. I think the scientists should create an increasing intelligence operation in order to help them. They’ll have their most graceful moment in their life, leastways, the operation can make people feel better and happier.
If I am a doctor I would create a new (or continues the) operation because sometimes it’s kind of boring when everyone is the same. I mean sometimes you need a genius to encourage you. I’ an example of this reason ? I came to America, of course my English get better, but my Chinese get weaker, because I can’t find a genius in Chinese to encourage me.
Although some one may not agree with me because they thought it was a big risk, it was dangerous, but they don’t realize that they can’t stop the development of science. I accept it is dangerous, but you still have to try, don’t you? If you tried, you may have a chance to success; otherwise, if you don’t, you’ll have no chance at all. Actually, science is a risk, some body did die for it. But just because of them, we can be so comfortable today.
Also, someone may think it was boring when everyone is a genius. But they don’t remember that the operation would make people become three times smarter. I mean, people are from different levels, also will end at different levels after the surgery. So you still can find diversity in the world!
The surgery is good for people and if I'm a doctor, I would create a new (or continues the) operation. People will feel the operation is really helpful, it can save you or give you a great idea when you were disappointed. I trust that if we think about it and try to fix it, the operation would be successful. Be optimistic!
