　　泰山地处华北大平原的东部，山东省中部，总面积约XX平方公里。风景区面积426平方公里。它的主峰是玉皇顶，海拔1545米。泰山具有得天独厚的地理环境，它东望大海，西邻黄河，南接孔子故里曲阜，北依泉城济南。济南、泰安、曲阜三地构成了国家级旅游热线山水圣人旅游线，泰山就处在这条热线的中心位臵。

　　大家知道，泰山博大精深，内涵极为丰富。但是它的真正价值到底是什么呢?简而言之，泰山具有重要的地质科学价值、独特的美学价值及珍贵的历史文化价值。

　　泰山在二十五亿年前的太古代还被海水掩盖着，后来渐渐地升出海面，直到三千万年前的新生代中期，泰山在喜马拉雅山运动的影响下，才形成现在的形状。因此，泰山石是世界上最古老的岩石之一，而泰山的山体却又是世界上最年轻的山，直到今天，它仍以每年0.05毫米的速度成长着。

　　泰山的美在于自然景观与人文景观的有机结合。泰山的自然景观之美，美在山体的高大及形象的雄伟。它主峰突兀，山势陡峻，山峦叠起，与周围的河海、平原产生了强烈的对比，形成了一览众山小的高旷气势。泰山山脉绵延200多公里，基础宽厚，形体集中，使人产生一种安稳感和厚重感，在心理上就形成了稳如泰山、重如泰山的自然感受。

　　泰山的人文景观与自然景观相协调。它的布局重点是从山下祭地的社首山开始，通过城区，沿着登山盘道，直达告天的玉皇顶，进行了自然空间的整体构思。在这条景观带上，大体上分为三重空间：一是以泰城为中心的人间闹市;二是以城区中的奈河到蒿里山一带为阴曹地府三是以城区北部的岱宗坊为起点，沿长达6000余级的云梯盘道，直至岱顶天庭仙界。

　　泰山由于优越的地理环境而成为古人类繁衍生息的主要地域之一，是远古人心中最高最大的山，蕴含着悠悠五千多年的历史文化积淀。在泰山之阳，发掘出了五千多年前的大汶口文化遗址，在泰山之阴有四千年前的龙山文化遗址。这为研究母系社会向父系社会过渡和国家的兴起、文明的起源提供了翔实而丰富的史料。

　　由于远古人的文化积淀，泰山便被古人看作是紫气之源、吉祥之地、神灵之宅、万物发育之所。

　　古代人认为天以高为尊，地以厚为德、天高不可及于泰山，于是凡是所谓受命于天的帝王为答谢天父的授命之恩，便要到接近天庭的泰山之巅积土筑高坛，意思是增泰山之高以祭天;然后再到泰山前接近大地的小山丘上设坛祭地，这就是历代帝王所狂热追求的泰山封禅大典。一代帝王若能登封泰山，便被天下人看作是国家鼎盛、天下太平的标志，皇帝本人也俨然成了奉天承运的真龙天子了。所以，泰山又因接连不断的封禅告祭活动被抬到了与天相齐的神圣高度。

　　伴随着封禅大典的形成，泰山宗教也相继发祥，遂使泰山古刹掩映、宫观林立。继而，文人名士、儒家学者纷至沓来朝山览胜，留下了大量的诗词歌赋，楹联题刻，不断丰富着泰山文化的内涵。

　　这里既有上古周天子巡狩泰山、会盟诸侯的周明堂遗址，又有春秋时中国最早的兵事防线泰山齐长城;既有历代帝王封禅告祭的故址登封台，又有碑臸最早的刻石泰山秦刻石;既有大字鼻祖经石峪刻文《金刚经》，又有天下洋洋大观之铭唐玄宗纪泰山铭。

　　五千年文化的积淀，使泰山成为天然的历史博物馆和驰名中外的游览胜地。东方鸿儒季羡林认为：泰山是中华文化的主要发祥地之一，欲弘扬中华文化，必先弘扬泰山文化。

　　泰山与泰安是山城一体，泰安是国泰民安的意思，取意于泰山安则天下安。泰安市是以旅游为支柱产业的新兴旅游城市，管辖着6个县市区：泰山区、岱岳区、新泰市、肥城市、宁阳县、东平县;总面积约7700平方公里，总人口536万。泰安经济发达，社会稳定，交通便利，自然资源丰富。仅就交通和资源而言，境内就有4条国道和12条省道。地下矿藏多达50多种，其中石膏和自然硫名列全国第一，氯化钠则是国内特大型盐矿之一，泰山红、泰山青、泰山花等花岗石板更是名扬海内外的石材之王。在农副产品及药材方面，盛产核桃、板栗、肥桃、大枣、灵芝、何首乌等，其中，桃园镇被国务院命名为中国佛桃之乡，泰山赤灵芝和何首乌被中国中医学会开发为多种保健药品。
